Myology of the horse

Learn and discover the muscles of the horse in a playful and visual way

The myology of the horse is often perceived as an arduous and complex area of knowledge.

Nevertheless, knowledge of the horse’s muscles is fundamental to :

  • fully exploit the horse’s physical potential
  • ensure the horse’s mental and physical well-being;
  • know its abilities and limitations.

Aware of the stakes, Julia Prével, equine manual masseuse, delivers her know-how and equine expertise in this 240-page book. It is with a playful, pleasant and accessible approach that she wrote “Myologie du cheval, muscle par muscle“, published in 2022.

The myology of the horse

knowledge for the well-being of horses

After reading this book, you will be able to :

  • Better understand your horse and its inner workings;
  • Improve your relationship and confidence with your horse;
  • Develop and work on your horse’s performance with full knowledge.
  • Adapt the different massage techniques to the muscles and visualise their pathways more accurately for masseurs and osteopaths.

In this book you will find...

The table of contents covers the anatomy of the horse from the head to the tip of the tail.

The different parts of the horse’s body are detailed: head, neck, neck, shoulder, arms… as well as their opposite regions (dorsal / ventral, lateral / medial…).

This global vision of the musculature of the horse allows you to see indirectly the different planes, the agonist and antagonist muscles.

On the programme: the hyoid, masticatory and locomotor apparatus of the horse.

The result: a better understanding of the functioning and biomechanics of your horse in a single book.

Highlights of the book

Careful drawings

The drawings are done by hand with watercolour pencils in an unconventional angle, which does not follow the classical plans of anatomy plates. This pedagogical approach facilitates the visualisation of the muscle and its movement.

Accessible texts

The editorial content is simplified and includes the origins, endings, functions, vessels and nerves for each muscle. This is combined with highly visual drawings for quick and easy learning.

Is this book for me?

This book is aimed at students and professionals in the equine world who are looking for knowledge. But its educational, entertaining and accessible approach allows enthusiasts and anyone who loves horses to learn about the muscular functioning of the horse.

"The idea of this book is to make the myology of the horse, which is often perceived as complex, more accessible. Having studied in the equine environment myself, it is not always easy to visualise and understand the musculature of the horse, especially when one is faced with drawings of muscles in the middle of others cut out on anatomy boards. And yet, this approach is fundamental to the performance and well-being of the horse.
It is therefore with a playful and artistic approach that I have published my book, to offer readers a pleasant, easy and intuitive learning experience.

Clémence
Former Equiphysio student

My name is Clémence, I did the Equiphysio training in 2020 and when I saw the advertisement for this book, I thought it looked incredible!
It was given to me as a Christmas present and I’m starting to discover it, it’s beautiful, the drawings are clear and precise and really make me want to review and deepen everything I’ve learned in class: to be a better masseuse.

I saw that the author had also done the Equiphysio training, it made me laugh, they should take this book as a support for their courses: it’s much more engaging.
All that to say bravo and wow!

François
Equine enthusiast

I wanted to thank you for the kind dedication on your book, which I was given.
Having just leafed through it for the moment, I am impressed by the quality and especially the number of sketches you have done. A very beautiful and rich work, really!
I am very interested in equine biomechanics, and your book will shed new light on my meagre knowledge in this field. Thank you once again.

Luce
Animal osteopathy student

Hello, I’m in my first year of animal osteopathy and your book has literally reconciled me with myology. You’ve done a great job and will be of use to many students. I’ve already spread the word to my class! You were right to put it on paper, the information is clear and detailed at the same time.
The drawings are beautiful and clear. I think it’s important to give feedback. I ordered it directly from the association’s website. And by the way, it’s also very responsive: ordered on Tuesday, Saturday in my mailbox!

Maud

Bravo for the book, it’s really top-notch ! Thank you so much for taking the time to reply so quickly.
